Inclusive Bible Study

Many people turn to drugs and alcohol to fill an emptiness they feel but find that substance abuse and/or addiction just makes that emptiness feel bigger and heavier. At Duke City Recovery Toolbox in Albuquerque, New Mexico we offer recovery support for your body, mind and spirit. One approach to Restoring Souls is through Bible study.

Why Consider Bible Study

Bible study is not a required part of addiction recovery, but there are benefits to nurturing your spirit. Participants who are active in Bible study develop a closer connection with the Divine and co-participants. These supports allow participants to really “dig in” to their recovery process.

What We Do in Bible Study

Bible study at Duke City Recovery Toolbox typically involves:

  • Opening prayer
  • Brief review of ground rules, which have been established to ensure everyone feels welcome and respected
  • Check-in
  • Daily devotional (based on a select scripture passage)
  • Discussion (participants are encouraged to share their interpretations of and/or beliefs about the scripture passage and related personal experiences)

Bible study is usually facilitated by a staff member, but there are groups co-facilitated by participants. To create an environment where participants feel comfortable sharing spiritual beliefs and personal experiences, we limit Bible study groups to eight participants.

What You Need for Bible Study

All materials are provided, but you may bring your own Bible if you wish. Bible study is most beneficial to those who come with an open mind and willingness to share.

While we are working on expanding Bible study to the evening clinic, Bible study is currently only offered during morning clinic hours. Evening clinic participants may attend Bible study with prior authorization from DCRT staff.

All Faiths Welcome

Bible study at Duke City Recovery Toolbox is Christian-based, but you do not have to be Christian to participate. All faiths are welcome. In fact, we find that diversity leads to deeper discussions, new insights and increased acceptance of others and their viewpoints.

Bible study is held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6:00 am. Please contact us if you need prior authorization.

Duke City Recovery Toolbox offers Bible study, open to participants of all faiths, to aid spiritual recovery.
